A Heartless Killer

Do you know someone who is suffering from the killing addiction to Heroin, Oxycontin, Methamphetamine, Cocaine, Marijuana and other substances?  In the world that we live in today it has been proven that addictions are on the rise by nearly 68% in even rural areas.

There are several causes that lead up to chemical dependency from social, economic pressure, school and peer pressures.  It seems that the age has significantly dropped to when a person begins to experiment with any of these substances to a tender age of 9 has been reported by many school districts around the country.  Why is it that neither the school districts nor parents of these children are able to see any of the signs that usually are illustrated by the person who is becoming an addict.  Is it that they are choosing to look past it or is it that they do not want to have to face the harsh reality of what is developing right before their very eyes?

Breaking the chains to addictions can be easy and does not have to destroy you nor the addict themselves.  However, I must caution you that the road you are about to embark upon in assisting someone from freeing themselves from the bondage's of addictions is going to be by far one of the most incredibly challenging projects you will ever undertake in your life.

For those who have yet to experience this I can assure you that you are going to feel as though your entire world has collapsed around you.  However, I want to encourage you to know that you are not allow and their have been many before you that have either been the addict them self or have been the family of an addict.

Tough love and determination are going to be the word of the day as you begin to take on this huge and difficult challenge.  Let me encourage you though.....

Let me encourage you, though, as their is a multitude of avenues that you can seek out for sources of educational materials and encouragement.  If this is your first time assisting someone freeing themselves from the bondage of addiction I highly encourage you to surround yourself with people who have walked this path before you.  They can offer you a huge amount of support and information that will be more than helpful along your journey.

Whether you are the addict or someone who is related to one and trying to deal with what can often times seem like a dead end road please take it from a recovering addict and someone who has been clean for over 15 years now, it can be achieved.

It is a matter of determining what direction you are wanting your life or the life of one you love who is affected by this heartless killer.  One big thing for those who are the family of an addict to realize is you did not cause their addiction and thus you are not going to be the cure for it either.  So many people have given up hope as they think just because they can't make a person stop indulging in some of the things they do that they have failed them.  Not so!  Please keep in mind that addictions to not happen overnight and surely are not cured overnight either.  It is a timely process and one that requires a commitment unlike anything else you have ever undertaken in your life.  That being said there will be periods where the person may quite possibly relapse a time or two before they truly begin to pull their program together and start the road to recover.  Due not see this as a failure as it is quite common among addicts depending upon the severity and nature of their addiction.

Let me offer you a note of encouragement!  You can do this and their will be a brighter light for you at the end of the day!  The important thing to remember is that you are going to need a higher power to help you through this dark and difficult time and I encourage you to seek out Jesus Christ for his wisdom and comfort during this trial in your life.  For those who may get to read this who live close to or in Springfield, Ohio I encourage you to give the wonderful people at Reasonable Choices, Inc. a look up as they have a vast array of resources to assist you with this.  Remember that you are in our hearts and minds and we are here for you!  Peace be with you on your journey and remember that you are not the first to have to walk this hellish road, however, their is light on the horizon and hope for you and your future.

Do you know someone who is suffering from addictions?  Let us know about it and how you were able to overcome it or assist someone with their recovery.
